Black Country firms optimistic about trade

Black Country businesses remain optimistic about the economy despite widespread predictions of recession, according to a new survey.

The second Quarterly Economic Survey compiled by Black Country Chamber of Commerce this year showed nearly half of its members expect turnover to increase over the next 12 months.

Additionally, more than 60% expect profitability to rise or remain constant during the coming 12 months.

The chamber's president, Peter Mathews, said: "Despite all the headlines suggesting that Britain is about to plunge into recession, companies here in the Black Country are proving to be resilient in the face of external pressures."
