NATIONAL training provider Remit has been a strong supporter of the Birmingham Post’s 200 in 100 campaign.

Already working with hundreds of apprentices across the West Midlands, Remit is committed to providing young people with job and training opportunities.

Since the campaign started, the Midlands-based firm has created apprenticeship vacancies for 12 young people across Birmingham, and that number continues to grow.

Every single Remit apprentice is employed and paid a wage from day one. The company’s specialist teams support each learner through their technical training, and help them gain nationally-recognised qualifications, as well as key skills in literacy, numeracy and IT.

Now working with around 5,400 apprentices across the country, the company is determined that on-the-job training is the key to tackling youth unemployment.

Chief Operating Officer Steve Yardley said: “With young people taking the brunt of the recession, and more than a million out of work, we want young people and their parents to understand what a difference an apprenticeship can make to their lives. I started out myself as an apprentice 28 years ago, and would never have believed the career path it enabled me to follow. But, like more than 50 of our own staff, I chose to take this route and I couldn’t be happier I made that decision.”

It’s not just individuals who benefit from apprenticeships, of course. It gives employers the chance to employ young people, which is not just an extra body but someone who is being trained in the right qualifications for the job.

Volant Passenger Vehicle Solutions, based in Aldridge, currently employs two Remit apprentices.
