Kidderminster mum starts up retro fashion business

A young Kidderminster mum is reinventing herself – and other people’s wardrobes – after launching a recycled clothes business.
At just 26, business novice Monique Brown now runs her own company So Retro in Comberton Road, Kidderminster, after attending a basic start-up course organised by Business Link West Midlands (BLWM).
She sells original, bespoke clothing inspired by the 40s, through to the 80s from her shop premises and online at www.soretro.co.uk.
She starteed up her business after realising people had to travel to Worcester or Birmingham to get their retro fashion fix.
She said: “I employ four women who help with the designs and sewing and things are going really well. We sell clothes for all ages, from toddlers to adults, and for both sexes.
“I was able to access funding from the Prince’s Trust for my website. I’ve had a lot of help from Balancing Business who explained all I needed to know about starting up my own business,” said Monique, who is staging an eco-friendly charity catwalk fashion show in May.
