Mumpreneurs conference keen to spread word on business start-ups

Six mothers who have set up their own businesses will be rewarded for their efforts at a ceremony which aims to celebrate women from across the UK who balance being a mum with being an entrepreneur.

The Mumpreneur Conference and Awards is set to take place on October 3 and will be a kick start to the inaugural Business Mum Week taking place at the City Inn, Birmingham.

These special working mums will be given awards in six different business categories, which involve, best start up, best green business, best direct sales rep, best franchisee, best online business and the inspirational business mum.

The awards are now open for nominations and mums are able to either nominate themselves or someone they know for the award categories. Mumpreneurs themselves will be judging the selected nominees and basing their decision on the nominee’s efforts in business to date, and their potential for the future.

Visitors to the conference will also get advice and help the women work to wards the future as well as congratulate them on their success. The City Inn’s doors will be open to all mums including beginners in business.

Mumpreneurs Wendy Shand and Tanya Rostron will be telling their inspiring stories at the event and Sam Hart, the founder of a tax advice website www.samhart.co.uk, will be running one of the seminars, which will focus on guiding mothers in monetising their ideas, and putting the records in place to ensure they become a success and are making money.

Sam said: “The nation’s mums are a creative, innovative and inspirational bunch of people.

“The Mumpreneur Conference is a great way for mums with a fledging idea – or even a fully-fledged business, to meet other super-mums and to get the advice, support and guidance they need to take their first steps on the mumpreneur journey, or find new ways to help in juggling their business and their families.”

The whole conference has been organised by mothers in business including local Mempreneurs Amanda Farren and Laura Rigney.

Dedicated mothers and business owners, both women are looking to help other women get the most out of the day as possible.

Laura, who runs www.totallygifted.co.uk from her home whilst looking after her three boys, said: “Many mums, such as Amanda and I, have started businesses as a way to stay at home with their children.

“While mainstream business support can easily be found, information and advice targeted specifically at busy mums who are working hard to make a difference is not readily available,” she added.

“We hope that this event can solve that problem and provide attendees with support and advice suitable for their needs.”

Amanda, a Coventry mother of three who work from home with www.ellaannouncements.com, said: “The aim of the Mumpreneur Conference is to bring like-minded mums together, provide them with the tools they need to move forward in business, to recognise their achievements, to raise awareness of the mumpreneurs of the UK, and of course to have fun in the process.”
