Budding entrepreneurs in Birmingham will get the chance to learn the basics of starting their own business this weekend, thanks to a 20-year-old local man.
Michael Allen had the idea for the business boot camp after he realised young people needed practical help in start-ups.
The Erdington man has been supported to set up the event by ITV Fixers, a youth campaign that gives young people between the ages of 16 and 25 the opportunity to tackle any issue that they feel strongly about.
Michael told ITV Fixers that he wanted to provide a place where young people aged between 18 and 25 could learn and apply essential skills that are needed to run a successful business.
Young people who attend the boot camp will take part in lectures and workshops led by local, national and internationally recognised business leaders.
They are aimed at providing an insight and inspiration into starting up and sustaining a business.
Business Boot Camp is being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Bridge Street, off Broad Street, in Birmingham this Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm. Places can be booked at www.ukbizbootcamp.co.uk.
Michael said: "In school you can learn about the theories of business but not necessarily how to apply it in the real world
"The aim of the event is to develop responsible sustainable businesses through a new generation of entrepreneurs."
Margo Horsley, executive producer for ITV Fixers with www.vinspired.com, said: "ITV Fixers are young people setting the agenda and changing stereotypes.
"We want to give young people the chance to decide what they want to do, develop their own projects, and give them a little bit of help if needed.
"I've seen how energetic and committed they are when what they're doing means something to them. What we're seeing has really made me question whether young people deserve such a bad press."
