A series of manufacturing best practice workshops are heading to the West Midlands this week with the aim of helping companies overcome rising raw material costs and fluctuating exchange rates.
Funded by the Manufacturing Advisory Service–West Midlands (MAS-WM), the trio of events in Stourbridge, Coventry and Cannock will provide delegates with an interactive insight into problem solving.
It will tap into the knowledge of industry experts Oneflow to deliver practical techniques that can be applied on the shop floor, a system to find ‘root causes’ and selecting the right solution.
The day-long sessions, which are free of charge to SMEs, will also examine the six sigma philosophy and how process variation can be monitored successfully to cut costs and improve quality.
“Manufacturing has been hit heavily by spiralling material costs and utility increases and this is having a negative effect on the bottom line,” explained Oneflow’s John Baldwin.
“Now more than ever, companies are looking at ways of controlling these figures and where possible trying to reduce them. One of the easiest means of doing this is by effective problem solving and making sure processes run as smooth as possible.”
October will see Purchasing Workshops return to the region after successful events earlier this year.
Once again, companies will be able to access knowledge on controlling purchasing costs, managing supply chains and optimising escalating material spend.
Simon Griffiths, chief executive of MAS-WM, said: “Giving businesses in the region impartial expertise that can have a long-lasting, positive impact on their bottom line is an important service and we’re delighted to be working with Oneflow to tackle key manufacturing issues.”
MAS-WM, which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has assisted over 6000 companies to improve their products, productivity, process and people, adding over £250m to the turnovers of those firms.
The events take place at Stourbridge Rugby Club on September 13, Coventry Rugby Club on September 14 and Cannock Cricket & Hockey Club on September 15.
The purchasing workshops will be held at Stourbridge Rugby Club on October 4, Coventry Rugby Club on October 5 and Cannock Cricket & Hockey Club on October 6. All workshops start at 8.30am and finish at approximately at 4.30pm
