Birmingham-based Lovell to build £4.23m housing development in Winson Green

Birmingham-based affordable housebuilder and regeneration specialist Lovell is set to build a £4.23 million housing development.

The Bacchus Road development in Winson Green will consist of 18 two-bedroom apartments and 23 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses.

The scheme is the first to be awarded to Lovell following the company’s appointment to the Midland Heart new-build contractor framework for housing projects valued between £2 million and £10 million earlier this year. Midland Heart is a housing and regeneration business that owns and manages more than 32,000 homes and invests more than £100 million a year in neighbourhoods.

Andrew Rhoades, development manager at Midland Heart, said: “Lovell has a proven track record of delivering high-quality affordable homes across the region and we are delighted to have them on board. A lot of investment by both Lovell and Midland Heart has already taken place to ensure we provide Winson Green with an affordable housing solution which meets its requirements. Work on site is due to begin shortly with completion expected in spring 2011.”

Midland Heart acquired the former Birmingham City Council depot site in April 2006. The 41-home development will provide much-needed affordable homes which will be available for rent or rent to homebuy. All will be built to Level Three of the Code of Sustainable Homes, which measures the environmental performance of new housing and is a prerequisite for all of Midland Heart’s new-build developments.

David Gough, Lovell commercial manager in the Midlands, said: “We’re excited to be appointed our first scheme working with Midland Heart as a member of the group’s contractor framework. Lovell is based in Woodgate Valley, Birmingham. We look forward to delivering this energy-efficient new housing which will help address the need for new high-quality affordable housing in Birmingham.”
