New chair of investor firm

Former Wragge & Co senior partner John Crabtree OBE has been appointed as chairman of Real Estate Investors (REI).

Will Wyatt, of Caledonia Investments, has also been appointed as a non-executive director at the West Midlands-based property group headed by Paul Bassi CBE.

The company has also moved its headquarters to Birmingham city centre and has taken a floor in Cathedral Place, 42-44 Waterloo Street, the former Birmingham headquarters of the Birmingham Midshires Building Society

Mr Wyatt joined Caledoniain 1997. He has a seat on the board of many business in which Caledonia is invested including Avanti Communications, Bristow Group and Melrose Resources. He was made chief executive of Caledonia last year

“We are very pleased to have him on board,” said Mr Bassi. “Caledonia has a track record of working with strong, financially committed, management teams like REI, and we are determined to deliver.”

Mr Crabtree remains a consultant to Wragge & Co.

Mr Bassi said: “John is an experienced chairman and will be vital to us as REI enters this growth phase.”

Mr Crabtree added: “I have known Paul for a long time and have great respect for his abilities. I am very much looking forward to this new challenge.”
