Stars come out for football tournament
Birmingham public relations agency Haslimann Taylor has launched its inaugural client football tournament in partnership with the Aston Villa Former Players Association.
Former Aston Villa player and Irish stalwart Steve Staunton was just one of the stars attending the event, which saw Haslimann Taylor staff and clients take part in a six-a-side competition at Sutton Coldfield College.
Players from Mitchells & Butlers, Aggregate Industries, Arriva Buses, Papa John’s pizza, Taylor Wimpey, Bostik and Arqadia played alongside two former professional players per team.
Haslimann Taylor director Dan Clifford said: “We’ve got a great working relationship with the guys from the Aston Villa Former Players Association and this event was their way of saying thank you for the work we have done for them this year.
“As well as giving our clients the chance to live out some childhood dreams, it was certainly well received by everyone involved, especially the winning team.
“This is the first time we have run this sort of event but judging from the response of those who took part we will certainly be looking to make it an annual fixture.”
It was the team led by Wolverhampton Wanderers star Darren Roberts that romped home to victory in the round robin competition, beating the ‘Villa Thrillers’ team featuring Neil Rioch and Steve Staunton in the final, with the ‘Baggies Boys’, including Darren Bradley and Richard Sneekes, coming third.
Following the game all competitors and spectators were treated to a post-match meal at Restaurant 82 in Sutton Coldfield, the official Aston Villa Former Players Association shirt sponsor.
