An exhibition showcasing the latest multimedia and digital technology aims to encourage new ideas for creative industries when it takes place in Birmingham.
The interactive Media Circus 2 event, at Fazeley Studios, in Digbeth, will have on show some of the UK’s most groundbreaking technology.
It is also hoped it will encourage collaborations between creative industries and university graduates to explore the possibilities of art, fashion, publishing, engineering and signage in the digital age.
Held over two days, the free event follows on from the Invisible City project and Media Circus event that took place in 2010.
This time, however, with funding from Marketing Birmingham, it promises major technological developments including an interactive floor, augmented reality, giant multi-touch touch screens and glasses-free 3D TV.
Danny Fisher, manager of Fazeley Studios, said: “The idea behind ‘Media Circus’ is firstly to showcase the wealth of talent we have in this city, via the visible development of new concepts and ideas.
"The project also aims to give something back to Birmingham’s community at a time where students and graduates, along with many other talented people are out of work.
"It will potentially open some doors of real opportunity.
“Fazeley Studios is the heart of digital Birmingham – we house many of the leading digital and creative companies so this really is the perfect venue for such an event."
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and brainstorm ideas for future digital and creative technologies at the event, with an online platform being available throughout the development stage over the summer.
In October the results of the project will be exhibited and demonstrated, culminating in a Media Circus Awards, rewarding the most innovative, commercial and artistic collaborations.
Karl Binder, MD of The Adhere Creative Ltd, and the brain behind the Media Circus added: "Contrary to what some believe, it’s not always about finding an entirely new solution. The best way to do things can often be to build on what is already there – utilising old engineering with new technology.
"One person or one company cannot always come up with these ideas, so that is why this project came about.”
Media Circus 2 will open to the public on June 7 and 8. It will be held in the newly refurbished Ikon Space at Fazeley Studios, 191 Fazeley Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 5SE. Admission is free.
