James Burbidge heads up St Philip's chambers
James Burbidge QC has stepped up to the position of head of chambers at St Philip's in Birmingham.
He succeeds William Davis QC who has been appointed as a circuit judge.
Having started as a pupil at one of the founding chambers of St Philip's in 1980, Mr Burbidge brings a wealth of expertise to the role. He specialises in criminal law and has been recognised as a “leading practitioner” in his field by the Chambers Directory for many years.
In his new role he leads the set of 154 barristers and door tenants at St Philips, which is one of the largest multi-disciplinary chambers outside London, providing expert advice in criminal, regulatory, family and all aspects of commercial law.
He will work alongside Mike Kimmons, chief executive of St Philip's, as the chambers continues to develop and innovate in all practice areas.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Kimmons said: “The Chambers has seen considerable growth in recent years and is home to a wealth of expertise in all areas of legal practice. “During the last 12 months, our barristers have been involved in a number of landmark cases and continue to attract high quality work.
“I am delighted to be working along-side James in his new role and we are focused on continuing to provide the highest level of service to our clients in Birmingham and across the wider West Midlands region.
“It is important that we can offer this level of expertise within the city and further enhances Birmingham’s position as a regional and national centre for professional services.
“We are pleased to see our former head of chambers, William Davis, appointed to the circuit bench. In recent months, four of our barristers have joined the circuit bench, which is a resounding acknowledgement of the knowledge and expertise within St Philip's.”
