John Bright Trophy: Dan Faizey's over to remember - or forget

Who says the Lord’s Taverners John Bright Trophy lacks cricketers of character? Addicts of the unusual will be pleased to know crowd pleaser Dan Faizey continued his reign at as the tournament’s most unpredictable cricketer in the latest set of results.

After his previous trophy triumph against Gateley Wareing  (27* and 2-18), the Mainstay Group all-rounder removed Shakespeare Putsman opener Adam Percival for 25 with his first ball with a long hop that hit the leg-stump after turning into a leg-break on the second (or was it the third?) bounce.

There followed an over of exceptional variety decorated with full tosses, wides and no balls. Sadly the entertainment didn’t last as he was limited to a single over and later the batting gods deserted him as he was clean bowled for a duck.

Batting first on June 20 at Britannic Park, Moseley, Shakespeare took advantage of some generally wayward bowling to score 156 for 4 in 16 overs with Hugh Miller (38 rtd), Ben McLeod (35 rtd) and Percival all striking the ball well.

But in reply, the Worcestershire property management group’s batting was in a different league to their bowling and they cruised to a winning score of 160 for 3 with more than four eight-ball overs to spare.

Mainstay left-hander Charles Lucas, the group’s new business director, led the way with a very neatly struck undefeated 36 that included an impressive six effortlessly lofted over midwicket into the huge oak tree sighted near the pavilion.

Regional director Bill Spray was again in good batting form scoring 40 retired with three sixes while team captain Wahid Hussain (29) was also in free-flowing form.
