JCB to axe nearly 100 jobs from Staffordshire factory

Heavy machinery manufacturers JCB is planning to cut another 97 jobs from its Staffordshire factory.

The Staffordshire-based firm, which has axed more than 1,000 posts in the past few months, said the new job losses will be at its factory in Uttoxeter which makes heavy excavators and employs around 440 people.

Most of the losses will be among production workers but a small number of other staff will also be hit.

A company spokesman said: “The construction equipment market continues to be badly affected by the downturn in the global economy.”
