Rise in thefts means more business for Alcomet Ltd

A Midlands supplier of electrical earthing materials and components specifically for electricity substations has seen business boom on the back of the increase of thefts.

Kingswinford’s Alcomet Ltd has defied the economic downturn and the fluctuating metals market due to the persistent problem of metal theft at electricity sub-stations thanks to a solution which has been welcomed by the utility sector.

The recent launch of Alcomet’s innovative Guardian Security Product range has been much in demand following its development in partnership with electrical substation specialist engineers.

The range was developed following the theft in 2006 at the electrical substation next to the Merry Hill Shopping Centre of copper earthing tape which left some 40,000 businesses and homes without electricity.

Gary James’ Alcomet’s co-director, said: “The problem of metal theft has blighted the utility sector for years.”
