Cadbury parent group Kraft changes name to Mondelez International

Just as Cadbury workers were getting used to their new bosses at Kraft Foods, the new parent group has changed its name to Mondelēz International.

Kraft – which completed a controversial takeover of the Bournville chocolate maker two years ago – said “Mondelēz” “is a newly coined word that evokes the idea of delicious world”.

The US company had previously announced it planned to divide into two companies before the end of 2012 – a snacks business and a high-margin North American grocery business – the latter of which will still be known as Kraft Foods.

Chairman and chief executive Irene Rosenfeld said: “For the new global snacks company, we wanted to find a new name that could serve as an umbrella for our iconic brands, reinforce the truly global nature of this business and build on our higher purpose – to ‘make today delicious.’ "
