Birmingham’s young professionals are feeling confident about their future and about the city as a whole despite the current doom and gloom of the recession.
A survey by Birmingham Future, the organisation that represents young professionals in the city, found over three quarters of respondents – 76 per cent – believed Birmingham is well-placed to weather the current recession, claiming that in the end it will only stand to make the city stronger.
When asked what impact the economic climate will have on their short-term career progression, over half – 53.9 per cent – claimed it would have no impact.
A smaller percentage – 27.4 per cent even said the recession would have a positive impact on their career, stating that not only is their job secure but that there are still opportunities for them to progress.
Birmingham Future chairman Matt Taylor said: “It is encouraging to know that members are backing Birmingham through these difficult times.
“It is therefore pivotal that businesses back young professionals, especially if the city is to continue to develop during the next decade and beyond and ultimately continue to deliver a vibrant, diverse, skilled and world-class professional, financial and business services sector.”
