New Wetherspoons pub creates 70 jobs in Northfield

Expanding pub operator JD Wetherspoon is to open its latest pub in Birmingham on Friday July 23, creating 70 jobs.

The company has spent £1.65 million re-developing the Black Horse in Bristol Road South, Northfield.

The Wetherspoon pub, which will keep the same name, will be managed by Andrew Hunt.

He said: “I am looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and am confident that it will be a good addition to Birmingham’s social scene.”

The local landmark pub was built in 1929. It was designed for the Davenports Brewery, by Francis Goldsbrough, as a replacement for their much smaller public house of the same name, which stood on the site. It is one of the largest and finest examples of a “Brewer’s Tudor” style public house in the country.
