Jude Law's Jewellery Quarter salon reveals healthy profits

A successful Jewellery Quarter hair salon has revealed healthy profits alongside a long list of celebrity clients.

Oliver James Salon takes its title from the middle names of owners Richard Morrall and Simon Rogers, who met in 2001 at Obsession Salon in the Mailbox, where Mr Rogers was a director of the multimillion pound salon chain.

The pair joined forces to open Oliver James in St Paul’s Square in 2010, with the aim of providing “affordable luxury”.

The business turned over £200,000 in the first year with a rise of 15 per cent in the second, working to a 40 per cent profit margin.

Mr Rogers, originally from Lichfield and now living in Birmingham city centre, said: “Oliver James Salon is not about huge turnover or becoming a well-known national brand, its all about going back to basics and keeping overheads low.

“Obviously we need to make money but we also want to keep it personal and friendly.

“All three of us are very proud of our history, client base and the salon.

“We decided to go from the Mailbox and downsize to St Paul’s because we wanted to create a salon with a friendly image and provide a more personal service.

“The job does include a lot of commuting, to London mainly, and all the celebrities we look after know we’re based in Birmingham, which is good for our city.”

The team of three at Oliver James have cut hair for clients including Jude Law, Will Young, Robbie Savage, Duran Duran, Erin O’Connor, Tiger Woods’ ex wife Elin and cast from Eastenders and Coronation Street.
