The day Gary Newbon got a Footballers’ Wives call-up

The answer is TV pundit Gary Newbon.
I have to say Newbon is a mate of mine and gave an excellent speech as Grays Promotions put on a fantastic ‘40 years in television’ eulogy for the lad at the Copthorne Hotel in Birmingham.
So, anyway, he’s abroad when his wife and agent Katy gets a call asking if he would appear on Footballers’ Wives.
He being at the time the star football commentator and all that.
So she talks him into it as he finally decides this is a must for his ego.
“I said – have I got a shagging part?”
And she says: “No, just be yourself.”
Boom, boom!
Anyway, Newbon is so desperate to keep this out of John Bright that the day it goes in he buys up every Birmingham Post in Solihull… before chucking them into the nearest skip.
Just so that Katy can’t find one.
And I guess he is probably doing exactly the same thing right now.
Phew.
