David Cameron to speak at Voice09 in Birmingham

David Cameron will open one of the UK's largest events for businesses set up to tackle social or environmental needs.

The Conservative party leader will deliver the keynote speech at social enterprise event Voice09 on February 10-11 at Birmingham's International Convention Centre.

Hundreds of social enterprises - businesses that put social justice and environmental sustainability at the core of what they do - are set to attend the event.

The event will feature an interactive exhibition where attendees can take part in activities to learn about social enterprises.

One exhibitor, Decoda, a social enterprise that uses sound and music to reach people with profound disabilities, will set up an inflatable exhibition.

Another exhibitor, Mustart, plans to run an art give-away, where people personalise a free book through art and then give it away to a stranger.

Voice is being run in partnership with regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, and the Social Enterprise Coalition
Jonathan Bland, chief executive of the Social Enterprise Coalition, said: "Social enterprise can address many of the questions being asked today about how we rebuild and sustain a vibrant economy while meeting pressing social and environmental needs.

"We welcome Mr Cameron and look forward to his contributions to what is becoming an increasingly broader and more urgent debate.

"Now in its fifth year, Voice will debate the most pressing issues about where the social enterprise movement is now, and where it needs to go next.

"How should social enterprise respond to the economic downturn, to issues of scale, growth and measuring impact? How can it engage with the private sector and forge lasting alliances that create measurable benefit for both?

"Come meet the social entrepreneurs with the big ideas, the politicians looking for solutions, and the financial institutions looking to connect with sustainable, ethical business."

There will also be one-to-one surgeries, and opportunities for general business advice and networking.

For a full programme or to register visit www.Voice09.org. Fees range from £148.35 for members of the Social Enterprise Coalition to £458.85 for corporate delegates.
