Birmingham Civic Society expanding Next Generation Awards scheme

An awards programme to inspire young people about living in Birmingham is looking for support from business people.
The Civic Society, the organisation that safeguards Birmingham’s heritage, is expanding its Next Generation Awards scheme.
Business people will be encouraged to spend time working with young people developing projects across the city.
This programme is currently funded by Birmingham City Council and in 2009/10 the aim is to work with 20 Birmingham schools and more than 4,000 students. Jo Dunlop is the programme’s newly appointed project manager who will be liaising with schools and the committee.
The programme has already notched up successes but, admitted Rob Langley, chairman of The Civic Society’s Citizenship programme, its continued growth will rely on business support.
