Festive Birmingham Proms event is all in very good cause

Hundreds of people are set to enjoy the sights and sounds of a magical Christmas Prom in December and help to raise funds for local charity.

Tickets are now on sale for the festive musical extravaganza to be held at the Town Hall on Tuesday, December 15, in aid of the Birmingham Community Foundation.

Held in association with international engineering consultancy Hyder and compered by broadcaster and journalist Adrian Goldberg, the spectacular event will be performed by the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Michael Lloyd.

Ian Webb, director for Hyder at its Aston-based Midlands office, said:  “This musical event partnership between the charity and Hyder has now become part of the social calendar for Birmingham. We remain committed to investing back into the local inner city communities and this event is a sure way of helping us to achieve this.”

Other sponsors have already started to sign up to support the event and they include Chatham Communications, Dickens Foundation, Jobson James, John Matthews Consulting, Metro Bar and Grill, Marc Kirsten Photography and the Town Hall which will be donating a mince pie with every drink sold.

Derek Inman, chief executive of the Birmingham Community Foundation, added: “This once again demonstrates great commitment from Hyder in support of the charity and reflects their genuine determination to give something back to the local communities in and around their area base.

“The Government currently has an incentive in place for all Community Network charities, of which we are one.  If we invest the funds raised from the concert into an endowment fund, the Government will match whatever we raise.

“The interest generated from the endowment fund will be invested back into local communities but the capital will remain intact. Therefore all money donated really will be a gift that goes on giving from now and forever – a great legacy for us all to leave behind.”

“I believe that this year will be one of the best ever concerts.  In response to some feedback we decided to combine the festive musical programme with that of a more traditional night at the Proms.  Who can resist singing loudly to irresistible carol favourites combined with the opportunity to wave the union jack like crazy and join in Rule Britannia?”

n Tickets for the event are £15 and £20 from Birmingham Community Foundation on 0121 322 5560. email christmasprom@bhamfoundation.co.uk
