Suite deal for Weightmans in Great Trade Up battle
The stock markets might be moribund, but trading continued furiously in The Great Trade Up, as Birmingham’s top business names vied to raise money for charity.
The Great Trade UP is a scheme involving some of the city’s biggest commercial names – raising money for the Kidney Kids’ Appeal at Birmingham Children’s Hospital by trying to trade up as high as they can from a single balloon.
And the “Weightmans Wheeler Dealers” couldn’t wait to show off their latest deal last week.
They had already netted a case of Champagne from Harvey Nichols. But last Thursday, the team were at the Radisson on Holloway Circus to announce their latest swap – the case of Champagne for a night in the exclusive Presidential Suite at the plush hotel.
Along with a meal voucher for the trendy Filini restaurant at the hotel, it means the team have now taken their humble balloon to a haul worth in the region of £800 – tough competition indeed.
But no one’s out of the competition yet, and Weightmans will be facing some stiff opposition from fellow lawyers Beachcroft.
The team at the Brindleyplace firm had already secured a romantic £250 Valentine’s night out at local restaurant Cielo. But there’s no time for romance when charity – and local pride – are up at stake, and the team swapped the Valentine’s night out for a weekend’s use of a convertible BMW, worth more than £400.
Injury risk solicitor Nicola Boyars is leading the charge at Beachcroft. She said: “It is fantastic that after just our second trade we have a total of at least £400. The Valentine’s Day package proved very popular and we had several very tempting offers to trade.
“But there was so much interest around the office from my colleagues in the offer from BMW to drive this beautiful car for a whole weekend, we decided it would give us the best prospect for trading up.
“I am delighted with the support the Beachcroft team has received from local businesses and our clients. Everyone is really getting behind the Children’s Hospital Appeal and I can’t wait to see the offers come flooding in for our next trade.”
BCH fund-raiser Fidelis Hynam said: “This is a glamorous week for the Great Trade Up. All the teams appear to be having lots of fun and enjoying themselves with the competition which is great news. We wanted to be a win-win situation for all involved.”
The Great Trade Up is organised by Birmingham Children’s Hospital alongside BBC Radio WM to raise money for a new renal unit at the hospital. The Great Trade Up lasts until May 15. An entry fee of £500 is required. To get involved, contact greattradeup@kidneykids.co.uk or call 0121 333 8539.
