Amey storms up the Great Trade-Up table
Amey has staged a last-minute rally to bounce back into the league of top-performing Birmingham firms all vying with each other to raise money for the Children’s Hospital.
Last week saw the Amey team trade in a clutch of Witch-branded beauty products and two tickets to the Aegon Classic tennis competition at Edgbaston for a Platinum gym membership with Fitness First worth £750 and membership of the Abingdon White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre worth £400.
The trade is the latest development in the Great Trade Up game which has teams trying to swap up as high as they can from a single balloon. When the time is up the things they end up with will be sold, with all money going towards a new renal unit for the hospital.
Monty Davies, assistant consultant at Amey, said it was “brilliant” to be back in the index after not being in it since Week 10.
“It’s been a great run as always and it’s all money for a good cause. We wanted to get back in to the top so we can compete with the other teams,” he said.
But he admitted it was going to be a tough call facing up to those firms at the top of the leader board. The number one spot is still occupied by Beachcroft LLP who have traded up to an original painting by the artist Charlotte Latham entitled Budlake Falls worth £6,000.
The Great Trade UP game is based on the experience of Canadian Kyle McDonald who bartered his way through 14 trades, beginning with a red paperclip and ending with a house.
The 17 teams playing were each given a Birmingham Children’s Hospital red balloon at the launch event and have traded this for an item of a higher value and are still going.
The teams will trade until May 15th, aiming to finish with a high-value item which they then “cash in” for the charity. Whoever raises the most money will be named Great Trade UP champion.
The Great Trade UP is organised by Birmingham Children’s Hospital alongside BBC Radio WM.
Trading closes this Friday, 15th May and then the teams will have until the 5th June to cash in their final item to raise as much money as possible the hospital’s Kidney Kids Appeal.
The winner will be announced following presentations from the top three performing teams at the Grand Finale on 11th June and full coverage will appear in the Birmingham Post on Monday, June 15.
