Review: Sugababes, at Cannock Chase Forest

Sugababes, at Cannock Chase Forest

From the opening salvo of chart-toppers Freak Like Me and Round Round to the encore of Girls and About You Now, this show came close to pop perfection.

Keisha Buchanan, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah – the thinking person’s Girls Aloud – have just returned to the UK after recording the seventh Sugababes album in Los Angeles.

Rather than showcase new material, they treated the crowd to all their best-known upbeat tracks such as Red Dress, Hole In The Head and Push The Button.

The only exceptions were Beware, a track from their last album on which Amelle did her very best Amy Whitehouse impression, and a terrific cover of En Vogue’s Don’t Let Go.

As the threatened storms stayed away, the black-clad trio slowed the tempo only twice for Stronger and Too Lost In You, displaying more mature vocals. The only disappointment was that the show was over in 75 minutes.
