East coast state of mind in the United States

Nick and his wife Rachel at Niagra falls

The Crowne Pointe Historic Inn was our imposing and impressive base. Sat on a hill overlooking P-Town (as the locals say) it was like a cosy British Inn.

We needed the spa, outside hot tubs and daily cheese and wine evening after cycling around Falmouth. If you can drag yourself away from the mineral soak baths you will find superb lobster serving restaurants and excellent shopping and nightlife.

We enjoyed two excellent day trips during our stay, including a must-do dune tour in a 4x4 vehicle.

The tour takes you through enormous old sand dunes on the Atlantic coast, and you can just about make out surviving shacks, which were built as life saving stations.

On our final day we sailed out on one of the whale sightseeing tours and I expected to see nothing. But the spectacular half day tour, complete with on-board marine biologists, tracked the magnificent animals down. It may have been a tiring 14 days, but we are already planning our west coast tour.
