Wolves beat Perth Glory in first game of the season

Wolves then lost Iwelumo who was replaced by Andy Keogh and immediately Karl Henry might have put the visitors 2-0 up only to see his shot from a Matt Jarvis' corner hit the side netting.

Wayne Hennessey then kept Wolves in the game with a diving save before Perth keeper Tando Delaphi was denying Keogh at the other end.

In the second half McCarthy changed almost the entire team to give himself a chance to see the strength in depth of his new squad and George Friend almost added to Wolves’ lead as he cut in from the left only to be denied by Delaphi.

On 59 minutes, Keogh cut in from the right and slammed a shot against the underside of the bar before replacement Wolves keeper Marcus Hahnemann was blocking a shot from Perth Glory striker, Million Butshiire.

Wolves replied with a stunning 40-yard volley by Keogh which again was denied by the agility of the Perth keeper before, from the resultant corner, Wolves new-boy Greg Halford almost put the game beyond the hosts.

The former Sunderland utility player, who only joined McCarthy's squad last week, saw his powerful header cleared off the line by Tando Delaphi.
