Wolves: Alan Curbishley puts name forward for manager's job after Mick McCarthy sacked

Alan Curbishley

Steve Morgan has promised a swift Wolves managerial appointment after Mick McCarthy was sacked - and says Alan Curbishley fits the right calibre of candidate.

The Wolves owner, who is abroad on holiday, said the club were today in the initial stages of drawing up a shortlist.

“Obviously this has all happened very, very fast.

“We have spoken about potential candidates, but we are a long way from.. we haven’t spoken to anyone and wouldn’t speak to anybody with Mick in place and quite rightly so.

"Now that Mick is no longer with the club, we will be having conversations with a number of people over the coming days.”

Former Charlton and West Ham boss Curbishley has already put his name forward.

Morgan said; “He’s got a great track record - he’s been there and done that before.

"He’s exactly the calibre of person that we would be looking for, but there are a number of other candidates as well, so I don’t want to be drawn into a conversation about who we would be talking to just yet, but clearly we would be interested in someone of his calibre.”

Steve Bruce is already the bookies’ favourites but Morgan is keen to see who fancies the job.

“We have to see who is available - who is the right fit for the club.

“It is not a question of grabbing anybody it is a question of getting the right person for the club. Someone who’s personality suits Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“We don’t know if it is somebody to take over and run the club till the end of the season, or a permanent position - all these things have to be taken into account. It’s very, very early to say yet.

Mick McCarthy

“But we won’t be hanging around, we can’t afford to hang around. We need to take some action over the next few days.”

Morgan wants an appointment before the trip to Newcastle a week on Saturday, but he added: “Terry Connor is very capable. I’m sure Terry will be saddened by what’s happened today.
