ASTON Villa will host this summer's FA Community Shield between Chelsea and Manchester City - confirming Villa Park's status as one of the country's leading stadia.

Villa's long-standing tradition of staging marquee games will continue when the FA Cup and Premier League winners meet on Sunday, August 12.

The fixture has been switched from its regular venue at Wembley to avoid a clash with the Olympic Games football final which is scheduled to be played a day before.

Villa chief executive said: “We are delighted to be hosting the 2012 Community Shield and we look forward to welcoming fans from Manchester City and Chelsea to Villa Park.
