Birmingham drop attempts to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng
Alex McLeish has ended his pursuit of Kevin-Prince Boateng after the out of favour Tottenham Hotspur midfielder 'disappeared off the radar' by returning to his homeland.
The Birmingham City manager has been looking to bring the German to St Andrew's in a bid to bolster the heart of his team which has been weakened by a long-term injury to Damien Johnson.
Boateng was idenfitied as a potential replacement and the club agreed a loan deal with Spurs with a view to a permanent transfer but the former Hertha Berlin man has appeared reluctant to drop down a division.
With little prospect of playing under Juande Ramos at White Hart Lane, Boateng opted to go home a fortnight ago since when McLeish has been unable to make any headway and has looked elsewhere.
McLeish appears to be on the brink of securing Nigel Quashie from West Ham, assuming the former Scotland international's fitness continues to improve, and that brings to an end the slightly bizarre Boateng situation.
"He has disappeared from the radar. I understand he is still in Germany," McLeish said. "We have not heard anything from Spurs, Boateng or the agent.
"We have got to move on. We can't wait forever. Until I hear something we are going to pursue the guys we are looking at at the moment."
