Alex McLeish deserves Birmingham City's Premier backing says Lee Carsley

Lee Carsley hopes that Alex McLeish will be handed the right resources to continue Birmingham City’s momentum in the Premier League next season.

The inspirational midfielder was a key component of the Birmingham squad that recently clinched an immediate return to the top flight after a laborious Championship campaign.

At 35, even Carsley himself is questioning just how many games he, and fellow veteran Kevin Phillips, will play next season but there is no doubt that the former Everton man is still a Premier League player.

That is exactly the type of calibre, albeit younger, that McLeish will be in search of this summer as he looks to rebuild his squad for the top flight.

Carsley, Birmingham’s team captain, is now eager to see his manager backed fully in the transfer market in order to build a sustainable challenge for consistency among English football’s elite next season and beyond.

“I think he (McLeish) is a very good manager, he just needs to be given the resources to get the club moving forward,” said Carsley, while speaking to Birmingham City correspondent Colin Tattum for an exclusive online video interview on www.birminghammail.net.
