Undoubtedly a return to the Premier League would be a huge boost to Blues financially.

Some observers have speculated that it is absolutely imperative due to a £40 million-£50 million bump in revenue alone.

Hughton pointed out that in many respects Blues were no different to any club seeking a return to the top flight.

“It’s a must for every club who is in the position we’re in.

“There is no doubt that the best possible time for any team who has gone down to go back up again is straight away.

“There is that desire from us as a club.

“If it’s not to be, then we move on and we consolidate and we look for the next best opportunity.

“But for any club in this position like us, the draw of the Premier League is such a massive draw.

“Not only financially but from my angle and the players’, they are desperate to get there.

“As would all the players at Blackpool, Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Leicester.”

After Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town, Blues head to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

They require just a point to qualify for the play-offs.

And Hughton said it would be no more than his players deserved.

“I am desperate for this group of boys to get over the line. They have been excellent all season.

“They deserve it, for the amount of games they’ve played and the spirit they’ve shown.’’
