It’s so far, so good for new Birmingham City manager Lee Clark.

Blues head to Cheltenham Town on Saturday for their third pre-season friendly in good heart.

Clark said he has been impressed by the attitude of his players since they reported back.

And he admitted that he was seeing some good signs in the warm-up games so far.

On Tuesday Blues came from behind to beat Shrewsbury Town with goals by Mitch Hancox and Nikola Zigic.

That followed on from Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach in Munich.

“We’re getting all kinds of things out of it so far,” said Clark.

“Different formations, trying new ideas, individual performances, team performances... what we do what we have got the ball, what we do when we haven’t got the ball.

“Against Shrewsbury we were creating chances, we were being positive in the final third – which I like – the goals we scored were high quality goals in terms of the finishing, proper goalscorer’s finishes.

“I was really pleased, with the slickness of the passing and moving and when we upped the tempo we still played high quality football.

“There are one or two areas we still need to brush up on, but things are going positively.”

The Austria camp in Bad Häring helped galvanise the squad, said Clark.

“We gained a hell of a lot from it.

“People have got to know each other ie the new players, and also me and my staff got to know the other staff and the group more intensely because you’re living with each other 24/7.

“And we were able to get quality work together, and we will look to continue the improvements over the coming weeks.”
