Trott's dismissal hastens Warwickshire's collapse and defeat

Twenty20 Cup: Northamptonshire 155-7 beat Warwickshire 131-6 by 24 runs. At Edgbaston
The loss of Jonathan Trott triggered a Warwickshire collapse at Edgbaston last night to allow Northamptonshire to put one foot into the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals.
Trott, who had posted Twenty20scores of 42, 53 not out and 55 prior to this fixture, looked in fine form again as the Bears looked on course to catch the Steelbacks’ total of 155 for seven.
However, when Trott was caught on 44 by Steve Crook off the impressive David Willey (2-17) in the 12th over, the hosts fell to pieces.
Having been sat on 92 for two just after the midway point, Warwickshire scored only 34 for four wickets from the last nine overs to finish 24 runs short of Northants’ target.
Trott’s total saw him clamber into 12th place in the all-time Twenty20 run-scoring list, leap-frogging Northamptonshire’s Ian Harvey. The Bears batsman is the third top-scoring English-qualified player, behind team-mate Darren Maddy and Mark Ramprakash, in the history of the popular short format.
This result halted Warwickshire’s recent momentum in this competition and sees unbeaten Northamptonshire comfortably sitting atop the Midlands/Wales/West Division.
The encounter, played in front of another disappointing Edgbaston crowd of only 5,500 despite the glorious weather, was witness to a comedy of fielding errors. Keith Barker, so far encouraging with bat and ball but needing a lot work on his fielding, spilt two catches in the deep while, for Northants, Monty Panesar was typically uncomfortable having dropped Neil Carter (25) on five in the second over. However, despite that, Steelbacks deserved their victory after showing great determination to wrestle this result away from the Bears.
Chris Woakes had been recalled to the side after Jimmy Anyon had failed to take his chance to oust the youngster against Glamorgan on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Northamptonshire were without their captain, Nicky Boje, who was ruled out with a hamstring strain.
