Trott's dismissal hastens Warwickshire's collapse and defeat

The visitors were on 78 for two at their halfway mark having lost Harvey (6), caught Stefan Piolet bowled Carter, and Riki Wessels (28), caught Ant Botha bowled Piolet.
Rob White (59) sailed past his half-century with three consecutive fours in the 13th before being bowled by Piolet (2-31) two overs later.
Northants’ skipper for the day, Andrew Hall, had hit a steady stream of singles to reach 19 before being stumped by Tim Ambrose off Jeetan Patel (1-19).
Johan van der Wath, who famously smashed the window of an Edgbaston commentary box with six two years ago, wasn’t his menacing self in the middle.
Having caused Crook (5) to be needlessly run out, he followed up a six by holing out to Piolet on cover boundary off Barker (1-29).
Jim Troughton showed butter-fingered Barker how to hold a ball by successfully grasping a Willey (5) drive off Carter as Northants went in with a easily reachable target.
In typical fashion, Carter blasted everything that came his way towards the boundary before being caught by Willey off David Lucas.
Anxiety levels grew when Troughton (5) fell, caught at point by Harvey off former Bears man Lee Daggett (1-13)
However, with Trott and Ian Bell at the crease, the hosts looked comfortable and reached the halfway point on 85 for two. But it all went pear-shaped when the former fell.
The wickets of Ambrose (3), Bell (24) and Ian Westwood (4) followed in four overs as Northants were suddenly catapulted into control. The firepower of Woakes (11 not out) and Botha (9 not out) never looked like being enough to wrench the Steelbacks from that driving seat.
