London Scottish 37
Moseley 21
Five games into their season Moseley now have all the evidence they need about the likely direction of their campaign.
If they play as they can, like they have done in the second half of their last three matches, then they are more than capable of fulfilling their ambition of finishing in the top eight.
When they play with the requisite intensity, run the ball with determination, support the carrier with commitment and turn the breakdown into a bunfight, they are more than a match for anyone, literally anyone, in the Championship.
Against Doncaster, Esher and here today against Scottish, Kevin Maggs' men showed themselves capable of scoring points almost at will. Indeed they have demonstrated an ability to win games in less than 40 coherent minutes.
However, and it is a big however, the other 40, or 60 as it was here, have tended not to be as good.
Indeed when Moseley play as they did in the first halves against Doncaster, Esher and Scottish, they are absolutely guaranteed to finish in the bottom four.
Put simply, they are not good enough to coast, which is exactly what one or two of their number did in this afternoon's truly shocking opening period.
Just as they did at Castle Park a fortnight ago, Moseley found themselves more than 20 points down having put up little resistance.
Then, a Kevin Maggs rollicking later, they have emerged from their half-time orange like men possessed and almost turned the whole thing around.
Today they did that initially through one try from Mike Ellery and then two from Andy Reay and with seven minutes remaining they were only 24-21 down and had all the momentum.
Unfortunately they chased the game a little too hard and allowed Exiles fly half Dan Mugford to complete his armchair ride with two penalties and an interception try as he took his personal points haul to 24.
That meant for the third week in five Moseley ended up with nothing but the knowledge that they must graft for the full 80 if they are to maximise their undoubted potential.
