West Brom signs Cech for £1.4m

West Brom have signed Slovakia international left-back Marek Cech from Porto in a £1.4million deal

The 25-year-old Slovakia international has signed a three-year contract with the Barclays Premier League newcomers.

Cech, who can also play on the left side of midfield, has linked up with Tony Mowbray's side on their pre-season tour of Holland and Germany.

The 6ft 1in defender has made 29 senior appearances for his country, scoring three goals - including two in a 5-0 Euro 2008 qualifying win over San Marino in November.

He came through the junior ranks at Inter Bratislava, before joining Czech side Sparta Prague in 2004.

A move to Porto followed just 12 months later where he became part of the side to win the last three Portuguese league titles.

He will challenge Paul Robinson for the first-team jersey as Mowbray's men bid to avoid an instant return to the Coca-Cola Championship.
