Meite now unlikely to arrive at West Brom

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray has ruled out the possibility of signing Abdoulaye Meite from Bolton Wanderers after it emerged that Trotters’ boss Gary Megson wanted to make it a player exchange deal.

When it became clear that former Albion manager Megson was interested in a swap deal, thought to be for either Jonathan Greening or Paul Robinson, Mowbray withdrew his interest in the Ivory Coast international.

“I don’t think that will happen, Mowbray said. “None of the players Bolton have mentioned would have any chance of going there.

“I haven’t had a conversation with anybody from Bolton and I’d be surprised if anybody else has. We made an enquiry about Meite but I don’t think we could reach an agreement so we move on.

“I would suggest that deal is dead in the water."
