West Brom staying silent after Mowbray linked to Celtic

must trim the size of his senior squad for next season from 31 to 20 players.

And he had been told before the end of the campaign by chairman Jeremy Peace that there will be no new funds available for transfer dealings as he looks to reshape his squad.

Mowbray has publicly insisted he is happy with the parameters he has to work within at Albion.  But he has to decide whether the chance to return to Scotland with one of the Old Firm is an attractive proposition should Celtic firm up their reported interest.

Meanwhile, West Brom skipper Jonathan Greening would welcome the arrival of fellow midfielder Barry Ferguson from Rangers this summer if a deal goes through.

Ferguson attended Albion's final home game of the season against Liverpool nine days ago and is much admired by Mowbray.

Greening said: "Barry Ferguson is the the kind of player who would make a big statement. He has played at the top level for a long, long time.

"The gaffer likes him a lot and, if he came to Albion, then it would be a real coup.  He's an international player, (who has) won lots of trophies and is a good central midfielder. To get someone of his calibre would be great for us."
