Chris Brunt hopes West Bromwich Albion can match his ambitions

Chris Brunt expects West Bromwich Albion to match his aspirations of becoming an established member of the Premier League over the coming years.

The Baggies winger signed a new contract earlier this week, extending his stay to three years, with an extra 12 months in the club’s favour.

He hopes that, during that time, the club can become part of the top flight’s fixtures and fittings.

“Hopefully we can stay in the Premier League and establish ourselves there,” said the Northern Ireland international.

“We’ve spent too long being up and down. I want to establish myself as a Premier League player and I think this club is capable of doing that.

“I think I can do that as a West Bromwich Albion player.

“We’ve been up, down, up, down.

“It’s been enjoyable being at this club but obviously it was difficulat last time in the Premier League.

“We can learn from that. People think we’re a yo-yo club that goes up and down all the time. We’re getting sick and tired of that.”

Brunt expects Albion to give a decent account in the Premier League this season.

He feels they are better equipped than they were two seasons ago when they finished bottom, albeit only by three points.

He added: “I’m delighted that the club offered me something new. I like playing for the club and it’s been good to me since I arrived.

“I’m happy to be here in the Premier League.

“There’s a good feeling around. Last season means we can only have positive thoughts and we have nothing to lose.

“We know it will be tough. People will be expecting us to go back down so it’s up to us to prove them wrong. We made mistakes last time which we’re confident won’t happen this time.

“The opening fixtures aren’t kind to us so we need to hit the ground running. It’s important to get as much in pre-season as we possibly can."
