West Brom: Peter Odemwingie set to put criticism behind him for Wolves clash

ROY Hodgson will have no qualms about throwing Peter Odemwingie into Sunday’s derby with Wolves if he is declared fit - despite his African Cup of Nations disappointment with Nigeria.

The 30-year-old striker reacted angrily on his Twitter feed after being singled out for criticism following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for next year’s tournament.

The Super Eagles drew with Guinea 2-2 in their decisive qualifier.

Odemwingie is currently nursing a minor but persistent foot injury, which will be looked at by a leading specialist in Holland.

Albion expect him to get the all clear, with Hodgson confident his striker will not allow last week’s disappointment to overshadow his preparations for the visit of Mick McCarthy's men.

“At the moment the last thing Peter needed at the moment was to go and be heavily criticised in Nigeria but we could have been lucky, he could have gone to Nigeria, had a wonder-game, scored three goals and been carried off as the hero and that would have helped us a great deal,” said Hodgson.

“It’s just one of those things and there’s nothing we can do about it except make certain that when he comes back he divorces Nigeria from West Bromwich Albion.
