Wolves: Mick Mccarthy says side committed "professional suicide" against Chelsea

MICK McCarthy said his side had committed ‘professional suicide’ in gifting Chelsea their late winner.

“I am livid and disgusted that we’ve given it away,” he fumed.

“We’ve let them off the hook and I’m feeling sick about that. The manner in which we lost was appalling.

“Yes, he gets to the byline but Frank Lampard shouldn’t be allowed to put it into an empty net. We should be defending that better.

“We need to put the ball in the net and that is costing us. We had opportunities and then we managed to get a goal and when it’s 1-1 it has to stay at 1-1. The second goal in my opinion is downright rubbish.

“I’m not going to go into detail – that’s for me and the players to go into. I get sick of talking about the players working hard and their spirit because they’ve got all that.

“The lads are fabulous in terms of their effort and commitment but we can’t afford to make mistakes and give teams victories like we did today.

“I should be here talking about a 1-1 draw, not the spirit and how we got back into the game. That sounds rubbish when you keep conceding and I get sick of talking about it.

“Let’s get points and then we can talk about a well-earned draw rather than back-handed praise for my team’s running about, which is a pre-requisite.”

McCarthy was ‘pleased’ with debutant Emmanuel Frimpong, saying: “He maybe ran out of steam a little bit but I was delighted with him – he’s going to be a good player for us.”
