EMMANUEL Frimpong has given Wolves some bite says team-mate Dave Edwards – who insists the on-loan Arsenal player was harshly treated by referee Mike Jones at Spurs on Saturday.

Frimpong was booked after a series of robust challenges agains the title contenders and was eventually taken off by boss Mick McCarthy.

But Edwards was full of praise for the youngster.

“He’s enjoyable to be around at the training ground – he’s a funny guy and a lively character,” he said.

“I thought he did really well on Saturday. It was quite a tough environment for him being an Arsenal player turning out at Tottenham.

“I think he was harshly dealt with at times by the referee and eventually the gaffer had to bring him off to protect him.

“Considering he’s only been here a couple of weeks he did well and it will be good to see more of him. Competition for places is something we have always had here and we’re all used to it now.”
