Birmingham sax player Julian Smith comes third in Britain's Got Talent

BIRMINGHAM saxophonist Julian Smith hit the high notes as the final of Britains Got Talent ended in a shock result last night.

The 39 year-old alto sax player from Bartley Green came third in the show, thanks to thousands of votes from the Midlands.

Music teacher Julian, who has been playing the sax since he was 14, had not been among the bookies favourites to succeed.

But he was hot on the heels of second-placed Susan Boyle and street-dancing winners Diversity.

I am delighted to have done so well, he said. Id love to go on and play the bigger theatres and arenas after this.

Diversitys victory came as a major upset, leaving hot favourite, Scottish singer Susan, to wish them all the best.

The group, which includes three sets of brothers, put in a stunning performance, weaving in a cheeky reference to the judges buzzers.

Three of the dancers donned red caps to represent the buttons the panels press to get acts off the stage.

As the result was announced, the group looked shocked and hugged each other.
