THE West Midlands transport chief has called for the nationalisation of the M6 Toll Road slamming the road as grossly under used and a huge waste of money.

Chief executive of Centro Geoff Inskip said it is a ‘madness’ that the old M6 is ‘choc-a-bloc’ every day while the Toll road is hardly used.

It costs £5.30 to take a car during the week and £10.60 for a heavy goods vehicle.

Speaking at a Conservative Conference fringe event he said: “We have got to deal with this and the solution is simple, bring it back into public ownership."

There were also calls from Centro and the Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership for greater devolution of Government funding to allow major projects to get off the ground with out long delays.
