A revolution in the history of Jaguar – with a major model expansion and jobs boom – is to be unveiled less than a year after its Castle Bromwich factory home looked doomed for the scrapheap.

Owners Tata is set to announce a “key moment” for the world-famous Jaguar business, which it says will “generate global product” and highlight the firm’s growing ambitions.

The fine detail of the announcement is still to be revealed but it is understood that it will include further information on a range of more than 40 new models across both Jaguar and Land Rover marques.

Key to the Jag model range revamp is a replacement for the Jaguar X-Type.

Global brand director Adrian Hallmark said in Detroit: “It (Jaguar) has gone from survival to unbridled ambition in three years.

“We won’t be selling one million Jaguars a year. But we want to sell ‘big multiples’ of the current numbers, a lot more than today.

“We’ll be launching 40 new cars, derivatives and major technologies from Jaguar/Land Rover in the next five years.”

He said of the replacement for the X-Type: “That segment is massive” and suggested it could become “the most important piece” of Jaguar’s product expansion.

A new entry-level luxury model would slip below the current XF model, but would not be a like for like replacement for the X-Type, he suggested.

“Could we do other body styles?” he said. “We’d love to do multiple body styles.”
