A SCHOOLBOY has been arrested by detectives investigating an attack outside a Birmingham mosque which left a man fighting for his life.

The 15-year-old, who is from the Small Heath area, was arrested at 7.40pm on Sunday and is currently being questioned by officers about the attack which happened on Friday afternoon near the Noor-ul-Uloom Mosque in St Oswald Road.

The 22-year old victim was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital with life-threatening head injuries after reportedly being hit with a baseball bat during a disturbance between a group of people.

He suffered a serious head injury and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Two men arrested on Friday night – aged 42- and 20-years-old and also from Small Heath – have both been released on police bail until a date in July.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Stuart Kidd from West Midlands Police's Force CID, said: "There is no change in the condition of the young man who suffered serious injuries during the attack, he is still very poorly in hospital."

It's understood a fight broke out between two people just before 2.30pm on June 1 which led to others becoming involved in the disturbance.

No-one else was injured during the incident.
