WOLVERHAMPTON’S Kristian Thomas was all smiles last night as GB won their first men’s gymnastics Olympic team medal in a century with bronze.

Kristian – with his team-mates Louis Smith, Max Whitlock, Daniel Purvis and Sam Oldham – produced a stunning team performance.

Britain had initially been awarded silver but a protest saw Japan claim silver and Britain downgraded to bronze.

“Right now I just couldn’t be happier,” he said.

“I couldn’t really care less about the protest and being put down to bronze because I have got an Olympic medal around my neck.

“Hopefully I can be a bit of a West Midlands legend now. I am happy to now be a part of the success that Wolverhampton has.”
