Police probe 'racist killing'
A teenage student has died after what police believe was a racially motivated attack.
The 16-year-old boy from Qatar suffered a serious head injury during the assault outside a takeaway in the seaside resort of Hastings, East Sussex, on Friday.
He died in King's College Hospital in south London on Sunday.
Sussex Police said it was treating the teenager's death as racially motivated.
The student was with friends outside the USA Fried Chicken and Kebab House, near the junction of Robertson Street and the A259 seafront road, when there was an altercation with a group of local teenagers.
Sussex Police said three men, aged 17, 18 and 20, had been arrested and interviewed and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Graham Pratt, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault to contact police. It was a busy time of the evening and there were many young people in the area. I am sure many of them would have seen what happened.
"The young man was a visitor to Hastings and his death is indeed tragic. Our thoughts are with his family."
Chief Inspector Natalie Carron, added: "The young man had spent about five weeks in Hastings and was due to return home next weekend. His death is incredibly sad."
Sussex Police said it had increased patrols in the area to reassure people and would continue to work with language schools to address any issues.
