Baby girl abandoned on school field

A baby girl less than three hours old has been found abandoned on a school playing field, police said.

Bedfordshire Police said officers were concerned for the welfare of the mother and appealed for her to get in touch.

The baby was found wrapped in a pink blanket under bushes at Daubeney Middle School in Kempston, Bedford, at 1.30pm on Saturday by a group of teenage boys.

A police spokeswoman said the little girl was safe and well following the "quick and speedy efforts" of the three boys.

The spokeswoman said: "Bedfordshire Police are concerned for the welfare of a woman who may have just given birth after a baby girl less than three hours old was found abandoned at a school playing field this lunchtime.

"She was found by three teenage boys who quickly realised the seriousness of the situation."

Officers urged the mother of the baby to come forward and seek medical attention.

The baby is not thought to have been left out in the cold for long.
